Quarter Two - April, 2025 Sergeant Forlorn Raven Sergeant Forlorn Raven joined the 101st Airborne Division Realism Unit on May 12th, 2024 where he was first assigned as a Rifleman in Second Squad, First Platoon. Sergeant Raven made an immediate impression on his leadership and fellow squad members as a trustworthy, loyal, and dedicated individual. Since then, Sgt Raven has been an outstanding demonstrator of core values and principles the 101st Airborne Division holds dearly; Trusting, Loyal, Competent, Confident, a guiding hand for some - an open ear for others. His contributions to Uniforms and Second Squad Leadership since early 2025 has been a massive boon to discipline and morale of the Platoon - acting as a steady rock for many around him. Here's to Sergeant Raven Airborne! Why did you join the 101st Airborne Division? I had been in a fair few units, ranging from casual to semi-realistic, but I hadn't been in a WWII unit. I really wanted to give one a try some day, so when I finally got around to it, I wanted to make sure I picked a unit that took realism seriously, one that could give me as authentic and immersive a WWII experience possible. I can safely say that the 101st has fulfilled this and then some! Any favorite/funny/memorable moment throughout our whole time in the unit? Haha, it's hard to pick just one when there's been so many great moments. Between the rush of panic when a Tiger I suddenly comes barrelling out of a seemingly-abandoned warehouse, or holding up in the ruins of a building fending off waves of enemies while under mortar fire, or that first combat jump at night, watching C-47 formations blanketing the skies as AA flak light them up. But in the end, I think my personal favourite moment(s) would simply be those times between combat when the squad has some downtime to banter and you really feel like you've found your second family Any advice to give to your fellow Paratroopers? I'd say the best advice I can probably give is to embrace the mindset of really being in the boots of a Paratrooper. This isn't a place for run-and-gun COD gaming; here you can get something far more special. Don't look at operations like 'combat vs waiting for combat', instead try to appreciate all those times when you're doing logistics or digging trenches or waiting for orders from higher up the chain - those are the times when you truly get that rare opportunity to feel what it was like being there almost a hundred years ago. When you appreciate that, you can get so much more enjoyment from this unit than anywhere else where it's just about your K:D ratio. Let the quiet times make it all the more intense when things go loud (and believe me, they most definitely get loud!). What value is most important to you? Why? There are a lot of very important values, most of them aren't much if they're not complemented by others. So to pick just one can undercut the importance of developing yourself in multiple avenues in a balanced way. Personally, if one stands out to me I think it would be empathy. To me that's one of the biggest parts of what makes us human. Without it we would never grow, we'd just resign ourselves to our own little bubble, never challenging it by thinking of how others experience the world differently to how we do. When I meet someone who is able to put themselves in the shoes of someone else enough to realise that they're incorrect about something, I consider that person to be deserving of immense respect. What motivates you? I've always found a great deal of satisfaction from contributing to something other than myself, whether that be making a school friend laugh, or volunteering with a charity. Don't know why, but I've never found it easy to enjoy something when it's just me experiencing it, I only find value in it when it's shared with others. I imagine being motivated by self-interest is a lot easier haha, but that's just how I've been as far back as I can remember, so being able to help make a positive impact is definitely what I see as most worth doing with my time. What would you say about the progress of the unit, and how you've contributed to it? I'm very satisfied with how the unit has been able to grow and adapt over the years. I've seen a lot of units where leadership are uncompromising and won't budge on an issue or hear out their members, leading to a lot of people leaving. However with the 101st I've seen genuine care for what the members think, which has led to it having such a strong sense of community and camaraderie. I hope I've been able to help encourage that and ensure that the 101st continues to be a place where you can feel like your voice is heard. Any valuable lessons you have learned while being in the unit? Many! You never really stop learning, and the unit ops are no exception. People skills from working alongside other Paratroopers to complete objectives, teamwork skills from leading fireteams cohesively, organisational skills from understanding operational plans and putting them into action. I've gained a lot of confidence in working with people and learned valuable ways to effectively lead and organise - skills which all directly translate to the real world. In the end, ArmA might be a video game, but the people you meet here and the experiences you share together are as real as anything.

Quarter One - January, 2026 Staff Sergeant Thomas Huot Staff Sergeant Thomas Huot joined the 101st Airborne Division Realism Unit on July 8th 2020- where he was first assigned as a Rifleman in First Squad, First Platoon. Staff Sergeant Huot was one of our founding members in this community, and has remained a central pillar in its foundation. From the beginning, Staff Sergeant Huot has, and continuously remains an enormous positive impact on our community - providing a guiding hand for many, and a lot of laughter for all. Staff Sergeant Huot exemplifies what it means to be loyal, dedicated, and steadfast in your friendships. Of all the members that have partook in this community, Staff Sergeant Huot alone has had one of the most significant impacts on building our foundations, expanding our communities reach, and being a central guiding force for many members. Without Staff Sergeant Huot, this community would not exist. Thank you for all of you do Staff Sergeant Huot, you are greatly appreciated by all. Strike! Why did you join the 101st Airborne Division? I've joined in July f 2020. I've mostly joined because 2019 pandemic and having torn ACL and MCL in a ski accident left me with much needed time to be part of a new project. Also I've been part of previous iteration of the 101st 502nd and 82nd airborne Any favorite/funny/memorable moment throughout our whole time in the unit? Through the years I've had many memorable moments, the first jump on Corregidor, the first battle of Iwo Jima, the big join ops we did with 23rd Panzer Division, the release of Spearhead CDLC, and all the fun ops just but to name a few. But one moment that is dear to me was one time on Overlord D-0, we were drop around a 88 anti-aircraft batterie, two fellow paratroopers and I managed to take it with small arm and pistol. On this assault, I killed 2 German with my trusty 45. For this action we got some award since we were able to destroy the 88 with satchel charge limiting the German AA presence in our area of operations. Any advice to give to your fellow Paratroopers? Always be willing to learn new things because most of what we learn can be applicable in many real life situations. What values matter to you most? Loyalty, duty and honor are some value I hold dear. I think those core values are important to live a balance life in general. What motivates you? To better myself at learning new skills and also making sure everyone have a good time every operation! What would you say about the progress of the unit, and how you've contributed to it? after almost 6 years in the unit I've learned quite a few things, like doing proper land navigation, working with Kat, flying a plane. Other than skills, I've learned to lead by example and how to improve the way I work with other people, which are two thing I use in my professional life on the day to day.

Technician Fourth Grade Nelson York In direct action against elements of Volksgrenadier Regiment 77 within the engagement area surrounding the 101st Airborne Divisions area of responsibility during the Battle of the Bulge, Technician Fourth Grade Nelson York distinguished himself as a beacon of leadership, control, patience and most of all - bearer of death. During a patrol into the town of Recogne on the 23rd of December, Sergeant York held back two squads of infantry, mechanized vehicles, and a Mark VI tank - which would've overwhelmed enemy forces for certain if they had broke through friendly lines. Then, he retreated to friendly lines and survived. Quarter Four - September, 2025 Technician Fourth Grade Nelson York Technician Fourth Grade Nelson York joined the 101st Airborne Division Realism Unit on July 29th, 2024 where he was first assigned as a Rifleman in Second Squad, First Platoon. Technician Fourth Grade Nelson York made an immediate impression on his leadership and fellow squad members as a positive and outgoing person with a devilish streak. Since then, T/4 York has been an outstanding demonstrator of core values and principles the 101st Airborne Division holds dearly; Trusting, Loyal, Competent, Confident, a guiding hand for some - an open ear for others. His contributions to staff shops since early 2025 has been a massive boon to discipline and morale of the Platoon - acting as a steady rock for many around him. Here's to Technician Fourth Grade Nelson York Airborne! Why did you join the 101st Airborne Division? I joined the 101st because I wanted to join a like minded group in doing re-enactment esc Arma ops that tied in with the Period of World History that I love learning about. Any favorite/funny/memorable moment throughout our whole time in the unit? Personally one of the most memorable moments throughout my time in the unit was during Operation Market Garden (with the 23rd Panzer Division) where we (the 101st were playing as a Airborne Field Artillery Regiment) and the Chaos from the Glider Landings and the subsequent holding of the line with our Artillery guns using them as Anti Tank guns to hold back the 23rd, where it showed the dedication and ferocity of my fellow teammates in doing what we could to stay the 23rd advance. What value is most important to you? Why? The most Important Value to myself is Integrity, regardless what we do it is important to do the right thing and in doing so, we might at times be forced out of what we see as our comfort zone and in order to do what we see as right you must be courageous to fight those difficulties and have the conviction to persevere. What motivates you? What motivates me is honestly the friendships I have made both within the Unit and Outside the Unit, before this unit and some of the people I met I saw playing Arma as being a hassle, I had the "Do I really want to do this" mindset, but after opening up and meeting some of the fellas in the 101st, I now look at every time before Ops (Main Op, Side Op, Fun Op, etc) as being motivated and excited because I get to play a game with people who I find to be fun and at times hilarious to play with. From the jokes we crack to the screams of agony from a gun shot the friends I have made here are what motivate me to get through the week just so I can hangout with them when I can. What would you say about the progress of the unit, and how you've contributed to it? The progress in the unit as of recently has had some subtle bumps from changes in structure (i.e. key leaders losing availability due to IRL things) however the unit looks to still be going strong as we have new junior leaders and squad leaders that have the confidence in what they are doing which increases the confidents of the rest of the squad and player base, Previously I was part of the Instructor team and with that I assisted with training and trained new players in the group which has "trained" our new players to understand at least the basics on how the 101st works during operations and motivate them to push themselves to do better. As of right now I just hang with my 2nd Squad fellas and honestly just try to help keep spirits up by trying to crack jokes or find anyway just to make them feel good about playing Arma. Any valuable lessons you have learned while being in the unit? The lessons I have learned so far in the unit is primarily just to get out of your comfort zone every now and then, try out new things whether it is attending a Unit Class like Signal School, BLC, Heavy Weapons, etc., bring out the best of yourself by learning more as what it does is give some relief to leaders as they then have a more confident and competent members of their squad.
