Silver Star - Technician Fourth Grade Nelson York

Technician Fourth Grade Nelson York

In direct action against elements of Volksgrenadier Regiment 77 within the engagement area surrounding the 101st Airborne Divisions area of responsibility during the Battle of the Bulge, Technician Fourth Grade Nelson York distinguished himself as a beacon of leadership, control, patience and most of all - bearer of death.

During a patrol into the town of Recogne on the 23rd of December, Sergeant York held back two squads of  infantry, mechanized vehicles, and a Mark VI tank - which would've overwhelmed enemy forces for certain if they had broke through friendly lines. Then, he retreated to friendly lines and survived.

Congratulations Sergeant,

First Lieutenant Charles Henderson
First Platoon, Platoon Commander
How Company, 3rd Battalion, 502d Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division
